Scripture Chain

I discovered this chain in my scripture study a couple days ago, and I'd like to share it with you.

Luke 18
13And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a asinner.

I then cross referenced that scripture to this scripture (using the footnotes).

Alma 38
13Do not apray as the Zoramites do, for ye have seen that they pray to be heard of men, and to be praised for their wisdom.
14Do not say: O God, I thank thee that we are abetter than our brethren; but rather say: O Lord, forgive my bunworthiness, and remember my brethren in mercy—yea, acknowledge your unworthiness before God at all times.

Well next I cross referenced that scripture with footnote a in verse 14 above.  Here's what it says:

16Holy God, we believe that thou hast separated us from our brethren; and we do not believe in the tradition of our brethren, which was handed down to them by the childishness of their fathers; but we believe that thou hast aelected us to be thy bholy children; and also thou hast made it known unto us that cthere shall be dno Christ.

Try to see the message in all of the scriptural passages.

  1. Well, if we are to become closer to Heavenly Father we won't be like the Pharisee or the Zoramites who thought they were better than everyone else. We would be as the Publican who was humble and repenting of his sins.

  2. I think that Meri Kay put it very well. We have to beware of pride and recoginize that we are all sinners and ask forgiveness.
